The Barber Gibbs Memorial Scholarship is a 501c3 non-profit memorial scholarship organization dedicated to empowering young adults in pursuing their academic dreams. Our scholarship program provides financial assistance for trade schools and colleges, along with mentorship opportunities, to support individuals in their journey towards personal and professional growth.
*Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 18-26 years old
*Education Status: Applicants must be either about to apply or currently attending a trade school or college/university
*Mentorship commitment: Applicants must agree to become a mentor to other individuals, contributing to the growth and development of their peers.
*Aspirations: Applicants should have aspirations of building up their chosen field or industry, demonstrating a strong commitment to personal and professional growth.
Community Impact: Applicants should have a desire to make a positive change in their community, whether through their career aspirations or community involvement.
*Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate a financial need, indicating that the scholarship will significantly contribute to their educational and career pursuits.
*Application Form: Applicants need to answer all questions listed in the application portal.
*Letter of intent: Applicants are required to write a 1- page letter detailing their plans to make positive changes in their community. This letter should outline their aspirations, goals, and strategies for contributing to community development and impact.
1. Scholarship Amount and Disbursement
- The scholarship amount is $1,000, distributed as $500 per semester for up to two semesters (fall and spring).
- The scholarship will not be disbursed for summer semesters.
- For trade schools, the maximum amount of $1,000 will be sent at the beginning of the program due to the shorter duration compared to traditional colleges.
- Additionally, trade school recipients will receive an incentive of $500 upon obtaining their trade license.
2. Initial Disbursement
- The recipient's school will receive the first $500 for the fall semester upon confirmation of enrollment.
3. Second Semester Disbursement
- To qualify for the second $500 disbursement for the spring semester, the recipient must:
- Provide their grades to a Barber Gibbs Dream team leader.
- Maintain at least a C average (2.0 GPA).
- If the recipient meets the grade requirement, the second $500 will be sent to the school for the spring semester.
- If the recipient does not maintain at least a C average, they forfeit the second $500 disbursement.
4. Academic Incentives
- Starting from the second semester, recipients are eligible for academic incentives based on their grades.
- An additional $50 will be awarded for each A received in a course.
- The incentive is calculated as follows: If a recipient has 10 classes and receives 10 A’s, they will receive an additional $500.
- The maximum incentive amount is $500.
- Incentives will be disbursed directly to the recipient, not the school.
5. Trade School Licensing Incentive
- Trade school recipients will receive an additional $500 incentive upon obtaining their trade license.
- This incentive will be disbursed directly to the recipient.
Summary of Scholarship Disbursement:
- Fall Semester:
- Initial disbursement: $500 to the recipient's school.
- Spring Semester:
- Second disbursement: $500 to the recipient's school (if a C average is maintained).
- Academic Incentive: Up to $500 for achieving A’s (calculated at $50 per A), disbursed directly to the recipient.
- Trade School:
- Initial disbursement: $1,000 to the recipient's trade school at the beginning of the program.
- Licensing Incentive: $500 upon obtaining the trade license, disbursed directly to the recipient.
